Homi Jehangir Bhabha, the Indian nuclear physicist. He was a prominent scientist who played a crucial role in establishing India's nuclear program. Bhabha is often referred to as the "father of India's nuclear program."
Born on October 30, 1909, in Mumbai, India, Bhabha pursued his education in physics and mathematics from Cambridge University in the United Kingdom. He made significant contributions to quantum theory and cosmic ray research, which earned him recognition in the scientific community.
Bhabha was a key figure in the establishment of the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) in Mumbai, which became a leading center for scientific research in India. He also played a pivotal role in the development of the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) in Mumbai, which became the nucleus for India's nuclear research and development.
Bhabha's vision and leadership were instrumental in shaping India's nuclear program. He advocated for the peaceful use of nuclear energy and worked towards the development of nuclear power plants in India. His contributions laid the foundation for India's nuclear energy capabilities and scientific advancements in the field.
Tragically, Homi Jehangir Bhabha's life was cut short when he died in a plane crash on January 24, 1966. Despite his untimely demise, his legacy lives on in the form of India's nuclear program and the scientific institutions he established.
Homi Jehangir Bhabha's contributions to science and his dedication to the development of nuclear energy in India continue to inspire scientists and researchers worldwide.

World Famous Indian Scientists and their achievements
India has a rich history of acclaimed geniuses and scientists around the world. Some of our Indian scientists have made history by changing the world and setting benchmarks for innovation. In our country, great mathematicians and scientists were born, such as Aryabhatta, who invented Zero and introduced the knowledge of numbers to the world for the first time. Here we have created a list of World Famous Indian Scientists and their beautiful contributions. As we know, let's see how they changed the world.
CV Raman (Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman) (1888-1970)
Dr. C V Raman was not only a great scientist, but he also believed in social development. Born in Tiruchirapalli on November 7, 1888, he won the first Nobel Prize in Physics in Asia for his pioneering work on light scattering in 1930. He found that when light passed through a transparent material, some of the deflected light changed wavelength. Raman also worked on the sound of musical instruments. He was the first person to investigate the sound harmonies of Indian drums such as Tabla and Millidangham. You must also read about the History of Indian Architecture.
Jagadish Chandra Bose (1858-1937)
Born in Mimenshin, Jagadish Chandra Bose was a man of many talents. He was an early science fiction scholar, physicist, biologist, archaeologist, and writer.
His invention, the "crescograph," helped to identify plants as living creatures by detecting very small movements in tissue. His other significant contributions during his life were physics and archaeology. He was the first Indian to be a member of the royal family in 1920.
Shrinivas Saramanujan (1887-1920)
Shrinivas Saramanujan is one of India's greatest mathematical geniuses. Without formal training, he has contributed to many mathematical disciplines such as number theory, infinite series, complex analysis, and continuous fractions. The mathematical knowledge of Ramanujan was great.
In the early 1900s, he developed a very efficient way to calculate pi, which was later incorporated into computer algorithms.
Homi Jehangir Bhabha (1909-1966)
Homi Jehangir Bhabha is more commonly known as the father of India's nuclear program. He was associated with his uncle, renowned businessman Drab Tata, who was a key figure in helping the Tata Group grow and grow.
In 1948 he became the first chair of the Indian Nuclear Commission. He played a key role in convincing the Nehru government to launch the Indian nuclear program.
He is the founding director of two institutions, the Bhabha Atomic Research Center and the Tata Institute for Fundamental Research (TIFR). Both of which have led to enormous growth and development in the field of research. In 1954, he was honoured at Padma Bhushan for his immeasurable contribution to science and engineering.
M Visves Valaya (1861-1962)
Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya was born to the Telugu Brahmin family in a village near Bangalore, India. He is also responsible for the construction and integration of dams nationwide. He is also known for inventing the block system used in overflow conditions.
In 1955, he received the Barra Ratna Award for his energetic contribution to society. He was also awarded the British Knight by King George V, who has a "lord" in honour of him. His birthday is celebrated every year as Engineer Day in India.

BPCL, BARC collaborate to scale up tech for Green Hydrogen production
Tumblr media
Bharat Petroleum Corporation (BPCL) has collaborated with Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) to scale up Alkaline Electrolyser technology for Green Hydrogen production.
"Presently, Electrolyser Plants are imported. This is a first of its kind initiative to support the country's commitment to achieve renewable energy targets and reduce greenhouse gas emissions," a BPCL statement said.
Refineries use large quantities of hydrogen for de-sulfurisation to make petrol, diesel and other chemicals. Currently, this hydrogen is made using steam reforming of natural gas, but results in high CO2 emission. Therefore, Refiners are setting up large-scale electrolysers to produce green hydrogen from water and thereby decarbonise Hydrogen production.

RESOURCES IN INDIA
Significant wellsprings of energy in India are delegated −
Customary sources (for example coal, oil, and atomic force).
Non-customary sources (for example sun oriented energy, hydro energy, geo-warm energy, and so forth.)
Petroleum product or traditional wellsprings of energy are discovered modest in nature and furthermore not ecological benevolent; then again, the non-regular wellsprings of energy, for example, sun oriented energy, wind energy, geo-warm energy, flowing energy, and so forth are inexhaustible wellsprings of energy and they are likewise natural neighborly (as they don't dirty climate).
Tumblr media
Coal
About 80% of the coal stores in India is of bituminous sort and is of non coking grade.
The most significant Gondwana coal fields of India are situated in Damodar Valley district.
Raniganj, Jharia, Bokaro, Giridih, and Karanpura are significant coalfields of Jharkhand-Bengal coal belt.
India Coal Field
Jharia is the biggest coal field followed by Raniganj.
Other significant coal mineshafts are Singrauli (somewhat in Madhya Pradesh and halfway in Uttar Pradesh); Korba in Chhattisgarh; Talcher and Rampur in Odisha; Chanda–Wardha, Kamptee, and Bander in Maharashtra; Singareni in Telangana; and Pandur in Andhra Pradesh.
Tertiary coalfields are generally situated in Darangiri, Cherrapunji, Mewlong, and Langrin in Meghalaya; Makum, Jaipur, and Nazira in upper Assam; Namchik – Namphuk in Arunachal Pradesh; and Kalakot in Jammu and Kashmir.
The earthy colored coal or lignite are found in the waterfront regions of Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry, Gujarat, and Jammu and Kashmir.
Oil
Hydrocarbons of fluid and vaporous states fluctuating in compound organization, shading, and explicit gravity are by and large known as oil asset.
Oil ventures produce different results; for instance, compost, manufactured elastic, engineered fiber, meds, vaseline, greases, wax, cleanser, and beautifying agents.
Rough oil ordinarily happens in sedimentary rocks of the tertiary time frame.
For the efficient oil investigation and creation, the Oil and Natural Gas Commission was set up in 1956.
Digboi, Naharkatiya, and Moran are significant oil delivering zones in Assam.
Ankaleshwar, Kalol, Mehsana, Nawagam, Kosamba, and Lunej are the significant oil delivering areas in Gujarat.
Mumbai High
Found 160 km off Mumbai, Mumbai high, a seaward oilfield was found in 1973. Creation of oil at the field was begun in 1976.
Energy Resources
Krishna-Godavari and Kaveri bowl on the east coast are huge areas of oil creation.
Oil removed from the wells stays in raw petroleum structure and contains numerous pollutions; henceforth, it should be separated in petroleum processing plants.
In view of objective, there are two sorts of petroleum processing plants — oil-field based (for example Digboi) and market based (Barauni).
To ship and build up the market for gaseous petrol, the Gas Authority of India Limited was set up in 1984 (it is a public division undertaking).
Despite the fact that flammable gas holds have been situated along the oil saves, however some select petroleum gas saves are found along the eastern shoreline of Tamil Nadu, Odisha, and Andhra Pradesh; just as around Tripura, Rajasthan, and seaward wells in Gujarat and Maharashtra.
Atomic Energy
Fundamental minerals utilized for the age of atomic energy are uranium and thorium.
Topographically, uranium metals are found at various areas along the Singbhum Copper belt.
Other significant uranium save areas are additionally found in Udaipur, Alwar, and Jhunjhunu locale of Rajasthan; Durg region of Chhattisgarh; Bhandara region of Maharashtra; and Kullu region of Himachal Pradesh.
Thorium is for the most part gotten from monazite and ilmenite, which is generally found along the shoreline of Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
Monazites kerala
Palakkad and Kollam areas of Kerala have the world's biggest monazite stores (as appeared in the picture given above − bigger view in insat picture).
Nuclear Energy Commission was set up in 1948 and the Atomic Energy Institute at Trombay was established in 1954.
Be that as it may, the Atomic Energy Institute at Trombay was renamed as Bhabha Atomic Research Center in 1967.
The significant atomic force ventures are situated at Tarapur (Maharashtra); Rawatbhata close to Kota (Rajasthan); Kalpakkam (Tamil Nadu); Narora (Uttar Pradesh); Kaiga (Karnataka); and Kakarapara (Gujarat).
Sun based Energy
Sun based energy is 7% more successful than coal or oil based plants and 10% more powerful than atomic plants.
The western piece of India has more noteworthy potential for the advancement of sun powered energy.
Different Sources of Energy
The Ministry of Non-regular Sources of Energy is liable for the improvement of wind energy in India as the significant wellspring of sustainable power source.
Sea flows are the storage facility of unending energy. Subsequently, India has incredible potential for the improvement of flowing energy.
Characteristic natural aquifers and fountains are being utilized since archaic period, however in the current world, these could be possible wellsprings of sustainable power source.
Manikaran, an underground aquifer in Himachal Pradesh is a significant inexhaustible wellspring of energy in India.
India Geysers
Bio-energy is the energy gotten ordinarily from the organic items, for example, horticultural deposits and other bio-squander.
Bio-energy can be changed over into electrical energy, heat energy, and gas for cooking.
Okhla in Delhi presents a genuine model by delivering bio energy from metropolitan waste.

Decoding motives behind the Kudankulam intrusion - analysis
Tumblr media
The North Korea-based Lazarus group’s attack against Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant (KKNPP) and the Indian Space Research Organisation in early September this year triggered considerable concerns over the challenge posed by external cyber threats. The North Korean State, with a Stalinist regime at its helm, is starved of financial and technological resources. It has considerable incentive to undertake the kind of cyber intrusion to extract information as was done at the KKNPP. There are two possibilities that could have driven the Lazarus group to deploy DTRACK — a spyware which allows access to data — to infiltrate the administrative network of the KKNPP facility. The first is purely technological: The DTRACK intrusion was to steal as much available technical data relating to the reactors’ design, coolant system, fuel handling and storage system, and ascertain the operating capacity of the reactors at the KKNPP. The corollary was perhaps as much to test both the cyber defences at the KKNPP facility, and Indian cyber operators’ response mechanisms when faced with a cyber intelligence penetration. The KKNPP facility hosts two Unit-1 and Unit-2 Pressurised Water Reactors (PWRs) known as the VVER-1000, each with a 1000 Megawatt Electricity (MWe), which are among the most advanced reactors built by the Russian nuclear industry. Unit-3 and Unit-4 are two additional reactors of the VVER-100 type with more advanced safety features to be installed to expand the electricity power generation capacity of the KKNPP facility. Pyongyang’s cyber espionage is potentially part of an effort to understand the technology and reactor design and the nature of the cyber defences at the KKNPP facility, or rather the Operating Environment (OE), and penetrating the administrative network was merely a dry run. A computer from the KKNPP infected by the DTRACK spyware attack could have compromised information relating to search and browser history, keylogging, Internet Protocols, and the data files stored on the system, which could be a stepping-stone for penetrating the computer controls that actually run the reactors. The browser history or technical information stored on the infected system could have possibly contained information about some node or technical data regarding the operation of the reactor. Any information about the software and computer controls transmitted across the administrative network at the time of the DTRACK penetration, wittingly or unwittingly, could serve as the source for future exploitation in the form of sabotage. Indeed, the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) is developing its own computational code system and software for the Russian designed VVERs at the KKNPP. Any leakage of computational or software data potentially create vulnerabilities. As of now, it is unclear what the extent of the breach was, and how much information was actually ex-filtrated. The press release by the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) reveals scant information about the magnitude of the attack beyond the reassuring statement that the computer controls running the reactors were unaffected, and the infected system has been isolated from the remainder of the network. The other objective of the Lazarus group’s cyber espionage goes beyond Pyongyang’s own needs of extracting information about the nuclear facility. It is plausible North Korea passed information on to interested third parties, which are inimical to Indian interests. Pakistan and China individually, or both, may be beneficiaries of the cyber intelligence exfiltration by the Lazarus group. If not immediately, both Beijing and Islamabad, in due course, could exploit the information provided by the North Korean cyber espionage mission against KKNPP. In the event of a crisis, the vulnerabilities of the VVERs could be exploited and their safe operation threatened. The only two centres that stand to strategically gain the most from the Lazarus group’s spyware intrusion are Beijing and Rawalpindi. Given their proximity to Pyongyang, China and Pakistan are plausible beneficiaries, because of their history of collusion with the North Koreans. Pyongyang may well have been a proxy, which lends plausible deniability to Chinese and Pakistani collusion. Monetary gains could be another plausible motivation for the cash-strapped North Korea. Conducting an act of cyber espionage of the kind conducted against Kudankulam is also a surprise. Few instances hitherto exist of Pyongyang pursuing cyber espionage missions of this nature against India’s nuclear infrastructure. New Delhi, after all, has formal diplomatic ties with Pyongyang, and is in a position to seek answers from the North Korean regime about the motivation behind Pyongyang’s use of cyber espionage against an Indian strategic facility. Cyber incidents involving nuclear facilities are not new. At least since 1990, there have been 20 recorded instances, but perpetration of the latest Kudankulam cyber incident on an Indian nuclear facility is the first of its kind, at least from North Korea. India’s nuclear security managers cannot afford to let their guards down, enabling such cyber intrusion. It is possible that this time the damage was not significant, and India’s cyber operators were effective in containing and neutralising the threat. However, lapses are costly if the targets are strategic facilities. New Delhi faces motivated non-State and State adversarial actors. The challenge from the cyber nuclear nexus has the potential to alter India’s security calculus significantly. News - Waste-to-Energy Plant Coming Up in Yercaud
The District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) has planned to execute a waste-to-energy plant project in Yercaud. The plant will integrate the Nisargruna Biomethanation Technology of the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) and will produce electricity, gas and organic manure with biodegradable and other wastes. The construction work of the plant is expected to be over within a couple of months.
Tumblr media
The project was given shape after Rohini R. Bhajibhakare, District Collector of Salem, held a meeting of the heads of various government departments several months back. The meeting underscored the implementation of projects, deploying BARC’s technology, to ameliorate the quality of life of the local community, whilst at the same time preserve the environment. Yercaud was the default choice so as to keep the tourist destination’s environment clean.
Senior scientist of BARC, Chennai, J.Daniel Chellappa said that this vital investment in the waste-to-energy plant would help convert all types of wastes into organic manure for a ‘greener’ hill station and increase the yield of agricultural and horticultural crops. He added that while the time required for conversion of waste into manure is generally 40 days, the proposed waste-to-energy plant would produce the same in 19 days, almost cutting the time taken by half.
A special team, on the direction from the District Collector, has already started a survey. By this, around 2 tonnes of wastes produced every day in the hill station and the surrounding hermits could be converted into 0.20 tonnes of organic mature, and 200 units of energy can be generated. Its sales invariably can boost the revenue of the local body. The project will eliminate waste dumped in landfills as well as groundwater contamination.
